The story

   01 · Exterior

   One hide, four seams

   The body is cut as one piece so the grain reads continuously across the front, sides and back. The corners are turned, not gusseted.

2. 

   02 · Interior

   Nothing to hide

   Unlined, so you can see the flesh side of the hide. A single slip pocket in the same leather, stitched to the back wall.

3. 

   03 · Materials

   Vegetable-tanned in Tuscany

   Full-grain shoulder tanned slowly in oak and chestnut extracts. It arrives matte and firm, and leaves you glossy and soft.

4. 

   04 · Hardware

   Brass that ages with you

   Unlacquered solid brass rivets and feet. They dull, then polish where your hands go.

5. 

   05 · Craftsmanship

   Saddle-stitched by hand

   Every seam is saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread, two needles crossing in each hole. Edges are painted in five coats.

   1. 01Full-grain shoulderNothing is sanded away. The natural grain, pores and all, is what takes the patina.
   2. 02Rolled handlesRolled by hand around a leather core, then saddle-stitched along their whole length.
   3. 03Painted edgesFive coats of edge paint, sanded between each. The slowest part of the bag.
   4. 04Solid brass rivetsUnlacquered, so they dull at first and polish where your hands go.

   In hand

   Fits a 14-inch laptop, a folded jacket and a bottle of water.

8. Patina

   It gets better

   Darkens by a shade within the first year and takes on a warm gloss where hands touch it most.

   Cognac darkens by two shades in the first year. By year five it is nearly espresso where it is handled, and the brass has gone soft gold.
